What to Expect

Turning up to a church service for the first time can be a little bit daunting. Even if you're a seasoned church attender, a new church with new people can quickly have you outside your comfort zone. So here are a few bits of information that we hope might help make it a bit easier.

A Warm Welcome

Or at least we hope you receive a warm welcome from the time you arrive at the front door! Please feel free to have a look around and if someone doesn’t say “Hi” to you, don’t be afraid to start a conversation with someone yourself.

The Connect Desk

There should be someone at our Connect Desk that can give you information about the church and grab your details if you’d like some follow-up through the week.

Before The Service

We try to have the dais at the front of the worship auditorium free of people at least half an hour before the commencement of each Service. If you’re blessed to be an organised person who gets to church early, feel free to take a seat in the auditorium at your leisure. There should be some background music playing and there might be some people there to talk with, or you might like to have a prayer time before the Service starts.

Children

At DC, we have a growing number of families with young children. At our 10am service we have Creche (Ages 1-3) and DC Kids (Kindy-Grade 6) which run during the sermon time. For children up to grade three there is a nut-free snack time (parents to supply). We have electronic sign-in and sign-out to keep track of everyone - if you are attending for the first time, it is helpful to enrol your child at the Connect Desk before the service starts.

Music

We generally start our services by singing a few worship songs together. We usually stand together to sing, and the words of the songs will be projected on screens at the front. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself singing these songs through the next week!

During The Service

During the service there will be a time of prayer, bible readings, testimonials & reports, and on the first Sunday of every month we will celebrate the Lord’s Supper (Communion) together. A key part of the service is the sermon, where we hear from God’s Word. The sermon will last for around 40-45 minutes. The whole service generally runs for about 90 minutes.

After The Service

Please stick around for a while and catch up with friends or make some new ones. There will be a refreshment station where you can get a coffee or tea, or maybe you’d like to go out to someone’s home or one of the great eateries/restaurants in Springfield.
