KEY VERSES
  • Don't make the same mistakes as the previous generation! (Deut 4)
  • “Look, today I am giving you the choice between a blessing and a curse!" (Deut 11:26)
  • Summary of Deuteronomy: “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! 20 You can make this choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. [He is your life]. (Deut 30:11)
  • Blessing / Curse Mountains (Deut 27)
  • Most Famous Verses, The SHEMA (said twice each day by Jews), "4 “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. 5 You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. (Deut 6:4-5)
  • SET MY LOVE UPON YOU: 6 For you are a holy people, who belong to the Lord your God. Of all the people on earth, the Lord your God has chosen you to be his own special treasure. 7 “The Lord did not set his heart on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other nations, for you were the smallest of all nations! 8 Rather, it was simply that the Lord loves you…” (Deut 7:6-8)
  • CARRIED: 30 The Lord your God who goes before you will himself fight for you, just as he did for you in Egypt before your eyes, 31 and in the wilderness, where you have seen how the Lord your God carried you, as a man carries his son, all the way that you went until you came to this place.’ (Deut 1:30-31)
  • BURIED: 5 So Moses, the servant of the Lord, died there in the land of Moab, just as the Lord had said. 6 The Lord buried him in a valley near BAITH PEH-OR in Moab, but to this day no one knows the exact place. (Deut 34:5-6)

JESUS TOOK THE CURSE SO WE GET THE BLESSING!
  • 13 But Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law. When he was hung on the cross, he took upon himself the curse for our wrongdoing. For it is written in the Scriptures, “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.” (cf. Deut 21:23). 14 Through Christ Jesus, God has blessed the Gentiles with the same blessing he promised to Abraham, so that we who are believers might receive the promised Holy Spirit through faith. (Galations 3:13-14)
  • EVERY SPIRITUAL BLESSING: 3 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. (Eph 1:3)
  • HEIRS WITH CHRIST: 17 And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory… (Romans 8:17a)
  • UNITED TO CHRIST: 30 God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin. (1 Corinthians 1:30)
  • THE ONLY BLESSING WE NEED: 7 I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done. 8 Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ 9 and become one with him. I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ. (Philippians 3:8)
