PRAYER DAY

Welcome

Welcome to our day of prayer! What a privilege it is to come before the Lord together.

In keeping with our current sermon series, Genesis to Jesus, we’ll be following a theme of praying generationally. In Christ, we are brought into God’s life, God’s family, and God’s story. We worship Him from generation to generation for His goodness and grace.

Before you begin...

You might want some music like this playing in the background while you read scripture and pray to help you focus on worshipping God. Music has a beautiful way of ushering us into God’s presence and sensitising us to hear God’s voice and recognise His beauty.

Remember, this guide is simply meant to prompt your own prayers as you meditate on the text and topic, our church and most importantly, Jesus Himself.

Don’t be discouraged if you need to slow down, speed up, or take a break. We pray that God’s Word would be a blessing to you as you seek Him.

Praying Across Generations

CONSIDER…
God’s redemptive plan for history is, by design, generational. What a relief it is to know that the real centre of history is not you, it is the cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ!

Sin seeks to shrink your life down to the size of you, but in Christ, your life is bigger than your lifetime.

The Psalms are full of reminders to proclaim the glorious deeds of the Lord to our children, and our children’s children (Psalm 78:4-7). The greatest gift you can give the next generation is your genuine worship of Jesus. Through prayer, we get to be part of a future we cannot yet see!

PRAY…
  • Lord God, we praise you for your steadfast love from everlasting to everlasting (Psalm 103:17).
Your Kingdom endures forever, throughout every generation (Psalm 145:13).
  • May we as your people commend your works to one another, throughout each generation, that those who come after us may praise You (Psalm, 145:4 and 102:18).
  • Thank you for being our dwelling place in every generation, throughout all time (Psalm 90:1).
  • Thank you for your promises to us and to our children, which never fail (Acts 2:39).
  • You are the source of every blessing, every good thing (Psalm 67:7 and 112:2), and you satisfy our souls now and forever.
  • Bless the Lord! (Psalm 103:1-5)

For Family & Friends:
  • May the children in our lives come to saving faith as they hear the Gospel of Jesus proclaimed through those in their lives who love you. Help them to recognise your worth and beauty.

For DC:
  • Praise God for our wonderful children’s ministry leaders and volunteers!
  • Would DC Kids be a place where children’s hearts are drawn to Christ, where they experience the love and welcome of Jesus.
  • Please Lord, help us to value the children in our church, to care for them, think of them and teach them to know you!

For the Global Church:
  • Encourage children across the earth to be bold in their young faith! To live for Jesus with their whole hearts (1Timothy 4:12).
  • Equip church leaders to serve generationally, blessing kids and teens with genuine love and faithful teaching.

Walking With JESUS

CONSIDER…
Because of Jesus, we are no longer trapped in death and distance from God - we are welcomed to walk with him by faith, pray with confidence, and seek his blessing across generations. Jesus didn’t rise from the dead just to give you a slightly better version of your tiny life, He came to give life to the full! The most full life is a life in step with Jesus - we were made to walk in the presence of God (John 10:10). The Christian life is trusting the risen Jesus enough to genuinely enjoy walking with Him.

PRAY…
  • Heavenly Father, what joy it is to have access to your presence because of Jesus! Your nearness is our joy and our light (Psalm 16:11 and John 8:12).
  • Thank you that you are always with us, that you have made your dwelling place with man (Exodus 33:14 and Revelation 21:3).
  • Thank you that You promise to draw near to us when we draw near to You (James 4:8), please help us to do so!
  • May we walk humbly with you (Micah 6:8) and gaze upon your beauty (Psalm 27:4) all the days of our lives.

For Family & Friends:
  • Help us to walk in the light of your presence.
  • Help us to look to you, Jesus, for our hope, joy and satisfaction.
  • May we grow more and more aware of Your nearness, so that we can walk in step with Your Spirit.

For DC:
  • Make us a congregation that seeks the fullest life, one that lives each day in Your presence.
  • Help us to welcome you into the everyday moments of our lives, enjoying communion with our Maker and Sustainer.

For the Global Church:
  • Let Your church hear and follow the sound of Your voice, that all Your people would enjoy You and trust You.

🎶 Song Suggestion: Fullness of Joy (Psalm 16)

Life Forever

CONSIDER…
When humans take for themselves, it leads to death. But when God takes to bring to himself, it leads to life. This new life we have in Christ is eternal, and a free gift to those who trust Him (Romans 6:23). The assurance, security and freedom available to us by faith in Jesus is life-transforming.

PRAY…
  • Jesus, You are life to us (1 John 5:11-12).
  • Thank you for seeing us in our sin, enslaved to death and darkness, and bringing us to life and light by Your death and resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:22).
  • We stand in awe of your loving kindness and your mercy.
  • Teach us to number our days and to recognise that we are not our own, but we were bought with a price, that we may get a heart of wisdom (Psalm 90:12).

For Family & Friends:
  • Please move in the hearts of those in our lives who do not yet know that saving grace available to them.
  • Open their eyes to the Gospel, that they might call upon Your name and be saved into life forever with You.

For DC:
  • May we live with hearts that truly believe that to live is Christ, and to die is gain (Philippians 1:21)

For the Global Church:
  • Grow Your church, Lord!
  • Empower us to preach and teach courageously about the eternal life You have won for us on the cross.

Worship and Wonder

CONSIDER…
When we take time to think on the power of our God who stands outside of time and space, ruling with authority and compassion for His People whom He loves, our hearts should be moved to worship! We serve a God who is before all things, and who holds ALL things together (Colossians 1:15-20).

PRAY…
  • God in heaven, you are worthy of all of our praise (Revelation 5:9-13)!
  • Let our every breath praise Your name (Psalm 150:6), that we would live lives marked by the worship of our Saviour and Redeemer.
  • You are lovely in everything that You are, and righteous in everything that You do.
  • How can it be that You would make Your dwelling place with us?
  • We cannot wait for the day when our faith will become sight, when we see you in the fullness of your glory, and every knee will bow at the sound of Your name (Philippians 2:9-11).

For Family & Friends:
  • Please move us and those around us to praise and worship in the little moments of everyday.
  • Help our family and friends look to you Jesus and worship You for all that You are, and all that You’ve done.

For DC:
  • That we all, with unveiled faces would behold Your glory, and that Your Spirit would make us more and more like Jesus (2 Corinthians 3:18).

For the Global Church:
  • Bring revival to Your church worldwide through the worship of the saints who are brought to their knees by Your glory and goodness.

🎶 Song Suggestion: Nothing Left To Say
