Guidelines & Protocol

ChildSafe
All volunteers in DC kids are required to be church members, blue card holders and ChildSafe trained. ChildSafe is an Australian organization that equips churches with resources and training to create safe environments for children. They provide tailored support, including policies and procedures, training programs, and consulting services, to help churches implement effective child protection measures. We utilize ChildSafe Safety Management online for conducting thorough program risk assessments and efficiently managing incident reports to ensure the safety and well-being of children in our care.
Check In / Out
Check in/out In any child-focused program like DC Kids, it's imperative for parents to check their children in and out as a transfer of duty of care. This process not only ensures accountability and safety but also fosters trust between the program organisers and parents. By checking children in, the program staff can verify attendance, gather essential information about any special needs or requirements, and ensure that the child is entering a secure environment. Similarly, checking children out ensures that they leave the premises under the supervision of an authorized adult and helps prevent any misunderstandings or potential risks. This practice underscores the commitment of the program to prioritise the safety and well-being of every child entrusted to their care, while also providing peace of mind to parents knowing their child's whereabouts and ensuring a smooth transition of responsibility.

Behaviour Policy
An expectation of respect towards team members and other children, one warning (with consequences explained) If child continues with inappropriate behaviour, parent will be asked to speak with the child If child continues with inappropriate behaviour, child will be returned to parent

Good Health Policy
If your child has vomited in the last 24 hours we ask that you keep them with you. If your child is contagious, or not well enough to participate in the program (as assessed by a team member), we will likewise ask you to keep them with you. If your child has any known allergies please inform the Team Leader of what they are allergic to, and any treatment required. This is a nut free area so please don't pack any morning tea containing nuts.

Toilet Use
Parents will be encouraged to take their children to the toilet during the transition from the main service to the DC kids program. If a child needs to go to the toilet during DC kids we will contact their parent via text message and ask the parent to come and take their child to the toilet. If there is an emergency toilet need, one DC Kids volunteer and at least two children will go to the toilet together. They will use the disabled toilet directly opposite cinema four, the volunteer will check the toilet is clear of people and safe before allowing the child into the toilet.

Children who need to be returned to their parents
If there is a child that needs to return to their parents, the DC kids volunteers will contact the via text message and ask them to come and collect their child. If parents are unable to be contacted via text a designated person in the service cinema will be contacted to find the required parent and ask them to come and collect their child.
